A system as complex and heavily-used as San Francisco’s MUNI inevitably encounters problems in its daily operations. Given outdated communications equipment, Central Control and Line Management staff often find themselves working at cross-purposes in trying to resolve these problems. These inefficiencies are frustrating to staff and customers alike.

While communications upgrades are scheduled to be completed in 3-5 years, in the meantime, passengers will make between 800 million and 1.3 billion trips on MUNI vehicles! Even an interim solution has the potential to have a tremendous impact on on-time performance and customer satisfaction.
